Carlos Velasquez is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sydney, Australia. He earned his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the University of Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano in 2013. Active in the art scene since 2009, his work has been featured in television reviews, books, magazines, and documentaries. Carlos has participated in exhibitions across Australia, Colombia, the USA, and Spain.
In 2011, he contributed to the exhibition "Papeles Alterados," a tribute to Nirma Zarate, one of Colombia's most important modern artists and a member of the renowned artist collective Taller 4 Rojo. His artwork was also included in the documentary of the same name that accompanied the show.
In 2014, Carlos took part in the "#seemetakeover" exhibition, which showcased his works on the iconic billboards of Times Square in New York. Additionally, he was involved in the "Emergencias" exhibition in Bogotá, which highlighted emerging artists and was organised by Espacio Odeón, one of Colombia's most significant independent cultural spaces.
From 2013 to 2014, Carlos worked with Flora Ars Natura, an independent space directed by José Roca, the former Artistic Director of the 23rd Sydney Biennale. In this role, he contributed as a photographer, provided artistic assistance, and helped develop programming for the space.
Carlos has been selected as a finalist in various art competitions, including the Small Works Art Prize 2023 at Brunswick Street Gallery in Melbourne and the Canberra Contemporary Photographic Prize 2023 at Photoaccess in Canberra.
In recent years, he has curated the exhibition "Abstraction Traction - Abstraction Attraction" at Goodspace Gallery in 2023. He was also part of the exhibition "Where The Strength Lies" at Honeybones Gallery in Melbourne, where the book "Collective" was launched, featuring his artwork and one of his poems. Additionally, he held a solo show titled "Creatures" at the same gallery in 2025, showcasing a series of drawings and sculptures.
His latest exhibitions include "Shedding," a multimedia project held in the Machine Hall in Sydney that combines art, contemporary dance, and music, and "Memoria Mistica" at Casa4 in Madrid, Spain.
